Momina, a beautiful 11-year-old girl, suffered from headaches, high grade fever, vomiting and poor appetite for several days. She and her mother arrived at Afshar Hospital, in Kabul, Afghanistan, in hopes of receiving the attention and medical care Momina desperately required.
After reviewing Momina’s medical history and performing a physical examination, doctors and nurses suspected a central nervous system infection and admitted her for a thorough medical workup.
Doctors performed a lumber puncture to draw cerebrospinal fluid for analysis and culture. Thankfully the Microbiology lab at Afshar Hospital was able to process the samples quickly. The results lead doctors to diagnose Momina with acute bacterial meningitis and prescribe the appropriate antibiotics.
Momina’s mother explained to hospital staff that she was not able to pay for any medical expenses, including medicine, due to financial hardship. Afshar Hospital staff referred the case to the hospital’s Charity Committee. After careful review, the committee granted Momina medical care and treatment.
After 10 days of receiving medication and care, Momina healed from her infection and was discharged. She left the hospital with a smile and joy. Afshar Hospital staff scheduled follow up appointments to monitor Momina’s health.
Momina and her mother expressed how grateful they were for the medical care, support, generosity, and love provided to them during their stay in Afshar Hospital, and for Dr. Obaidullah’s initial assessment, prompt diagnosis and counseling.
Through generous donations made to the AMOR organization, Afshar Hospital continues to provide quality health care for all children and families in Afghanistan, regardless of their ability to pay.
Together, we are building healthy communities worldwide! Thank you for your support!
