Afshar Hospital Transforms Life for 12-Year-Old Battling Type 1 Diabetes

Nargis is a brave 12-year-old girl from the rural province of Ghazni, Afghanistan. For half her life, she has battled with Type 1 diabetes. Growing up in poverty, her family struggled to afford insulin, and their lack of education about diabetes left her dangerously close to losing her life more than once.

Four years ago, a neighbor recommended that Nargis and her mother visit Afshar Hospital in Kabul, changing their lives forever. At Afshar Hospital, which is operated by AMOR Afghanistan Health Organization (AAHO), the medical team provided compassionate care, regular access to affordable insulin, and, most importantly, crucial diabetes education. This knowledge helped Nargis and her mother prevent life-threatening complications and take control of her condition for the first time.

Now, Nargis’s diabetes is under control and her mother confidently manages her condition, knowing they are not alone. With the Afshar Hospital team by their side, the family feels supported every step of the way.

Their story is a powerful reminder of how access to healthcare and health education can transform lives— allowing children like Nargis to grow up without constant worry about their health, and instead, focus on just being a kid.

You can help more children like Nargis receive the care they deserve.
