Due to COVID-19, families in Mendota were experiencing high levels of food insecurity. During the normal school year, the school district does not provide breakfast and lunch during spring break. This year, due to the pandemic, this gap in food service created an additional level of hardship.
In just under a week, the AMOR team went in search of donors, large quantities of food and volunteers to address this urgent need in Mendota. With your help, AMOR was able to secure non-perishable food and pantry staples to help feed 200 children and their families. Each bag was filled with breakfast items such as pancake mix, dried cereal and granola bars. Lunch items included macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, a loaf of bread, chips and Peelz mandarins. Pantry staples such as rice and beans were also included in each child’s bag.
AMOR partnered with Westside Youth, Mendota Youth Recreation and Mendota First Baptist Church to deliver these essential food packages to students throughout the community that need it most.
On behalf of the families in Mendota and the AMOR team, we sincerely thank you for your generous contribution to our food distribution efforts. Your generosity and kindness has made all the difference in so many lives during a very tough time.Although this pandemic has changed so much in our lives, one thing it hasn’t affected is the kindness and compassion we can share to lift each other up.
We’re in this together!
Families in Mendota say Thank you!
