Happy anniversary to the AMOR Wellness Center (AWC)! This August marks five years of service, support, and community-building in Mendota and rural West Fresno County. Since opening its doors, the AWC has become a trusted resource hub where families can easily access essential programs and services.
Supporting Families in Need
Over the past five years, AMOR Wellness has focused on meeting the most urgent needs of families in rural West Fresno County, especially when it comes to food, basic essentials, and emergency support.
Every first Tuesday of the month, more than 1,000 community members attend the monthly food distribution to receive fresh fruits, vegetables, and pantry items. Four additional food distributions take place in Mendota each month, with details shared online and in person to ensure families stay informed.
The emergency food pantry provides support for families and individuals experiencing sudden or urgent need. Each month, it supplies an average of 100 households with two weeks’ worth of pantry items, including cereal, rice, beans, canned goods, frozen foods, and more.
To further support families with infants and toddlers, the AMOR Wellness Center runs an emergency diaper pantry that provides around 150 families each month with diapers, pull-ups, and wipes during times of need.
Through the Senior Hunger Initiative, over 100 heart-healthy food boxes are delivered to local seniors each month, helping reduce food insecurity among one of the region’s most vulnerable populations.
Expanding Access to Healthcare
Supporting community health means making healthcare accessible.
The AMOR Wellness Health Center is home to a primary care clinic with free and low-cost care, including preventative screenings, vaccinations, chronic disease management, and baby and child wellness care.
Public benefits enrollment is another area where AMOR Wellness has made a lasting impact. Each month, about 150 families and individuals receive hands-on help applying for programs like Medi-Cal, ensuring they don’t have to navigate the system alone to access the healthcare they need.
Building Stronger Futures
Over the past five years, AMOR Wellness has also focused on helping families build stability for the future.
With support from local partners, families have been able to gain skills and work toward career advancement through job training and formal education programs hosted at the AMOR Wellness Center. Many participants go on to find employment, earn certifications, or pursue higher education, which can help break generational cycles of poverty.
Partner organizations also provide regular, on-site support to help families with other important aspects of life, including family advocacy services, developmental disability support for children and adults, youth activities, legal services, and more.
To further support the community, AMOR Wellness hosts and participates in lively community events and resource fairs year-round that bring hundreds of families together and connect them with helpful resources and family-friendly fun.
Now five years strong, the AMOR Wellness Center continues to grow alongside the community it serves. As we expand our programs, strengthen our partnerships, and reach even more families, we’re proud of all that’s been accomplished, and even more excited for what’s ahead.
Thank you for five years and here’s to many more!
