At AMOR’s 9th annual fundraising gala, Gala on the Bluffs, guests came together for an evening of generosity and celebration, raising over $100,000 towards AMOR’s programs in Afghanistan, Mendota, and Ukraine. Gala on the Bluffs showcased the incredible impact that collective giving can have on communities in need, both locally and globally.
Illuminating Hope and Education in Afghanistan
For AMOR’s Afghanistan project, donors opened their hearts to support two critical needs at Afshar Hospital. The first is phototherapy lights for the hospital’s neonatal unit. These special blue lights are lifesavers for newborns suffering from jaundice, a condition where the skin turns yellow due to blood cell complications. With timely phototherapy treatment, these vulnerable infants can avoid serious complications and lead thriving, healthy lives.
Additionally, a year of English classes was funded for Afshar Hospital staff, particularly benefiting female employees. In a country where formal education opportunities for women and girls are limited, these classes provide essential skills for medical professionals to access and understand the latest research and best medical practices, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes.
Nourishing Bodies and Minds in Mendota
Closer to home in Mendota, the AMOR Wellness Center received support for two vital initiatives. Donations poured in to supply the Emergency Food Pantry, ensuring that agricultural families who work tirelessly in the fields have access to nutritious meals and essential hygiene products. This pantry serves as a lifeline for families facing food insecurity, especially between farming seasons, and provides them with the sustenance they need to thrive.
Furthermore, contributions went towards expanding the Community Garden, where children can connect with nature and learn valuable skills while cultivating fresh produce and vibrant flowers. This initiative not only promotes healthy outdoor activities, but also fosters a sense of community and pride as the kids see the fruits of their labor flourish.
Extending a Helping Hand to Ukraine’s Orphanages
In Ukraine, the funds raised will bring much-needed support to an orphanage for children with special needs. These funds will allow for the construction of a new room, creating a more comfortable and spacious environment for the 20 children who call it home. Additionally, the orphanage will be equipped with laptops, internet access, and specialized child development tools to enhance their learning experience. Through these initiatives, vulnerable children are provided with the essentials they need, including warm beds, full bellies, and the opportunity to learn and grow.
Celebrating Generosity
As guests reveled in the festivities of Gala on the Bluffs—enjoying silent and live auctions, tasty dinner and cocktails, lively dancing, and even a cigar bar—they also celebrated the spirit of giving and the impact of their contributions.
