A Life Saved

On April 6th a baby was born by emergency C-section at AMOR’s Afshar Hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan. The baby was delivered at just 28 weeks and was showing signs of respiratory distress. The mother was refused by a few hospitals before coming to Afshar Hospital because of the severity of the health complications.

The maternity and neonatal teams at Afshar Hospital acted quickly to save the baby’s life. After receiving medication and assistance with ventilation and assistance through tube feeding the baby, now just days old, is no longer in critical care and both mother and baby are doing well.

Often times, mothers living in poverty are unable to receive the proper prenatal care they need to keep both mother and baby healthy. In some cases, mothers with difficult complications are turned away due to lack of medical equipment at the hospital or financial hardships. AMOR’s Afshar Hospital is able to help children, women and families regardless of their ability to pay.

AMOR is proud of the amazing team of doctors, nurses and medical staff at Afshar Hospital working tirelessly to improve the lives of so many in Afghanistan even as they face the additional challenges of providing front line health care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
